Meet Our First New Year Animal Arrivals!

07 February 2018

There’s no better way to beat the winter blues than by welcoming new members to our animal family at Hatton.  And we’ve already marked the start of the year with some Dorset Horn lambs.  They’re so adorable and a “must see” when you’re visiting us for a family day out!

Dorset Horns are special as they’re the only British breed that can give birth twice a year, and we’re delighted to have our first set of lambs so early on.  The mums are very good with their babies, who are thriving and settling in well.  These sheep are known for being adaptable and resilient and we’re sure they’ll all be happy at Hatton!

Although sheep are a familiar sight on farms, there’s still lots to learn about our woolly friends, for example:

  • They have four – yes, four – chambers in their stomachs to help them digest and get as much goodness as possible from the enormous amount of grass they eat.

  • According to the Guinness Book of Records, the most wool sheared at one go was a whopping 41 kg from Chris, a merino sheep in Canberra, Australia – it was twice his own body weight!

  • If a sheep falls over onto its back, it may look funny but it can’t get up again. So if you ever see one lying on the ground, get help from the nearest farmer as soon as possible.

Don’t miss out on meeting our lovely Dorset Horn lambs – and seeing the rest of Hatton’s animal family too.  We guarantee you’ll get a great winter welcome when you visit our leading West Midlands family attraction!
