Strawberry Picking in Warwickshire

Strawberries Grown with Care, Bursting with Flavour

Head out into the fields, fill your punnet with sun-ripened strawberries, then spend the rest of the day exploring everything our adventure farm has to offer. This isn’t just strawberry picking – it’s a full family day out.

We take real pride in the quality of our crop. Our strawberries are grown on-site and monitored closely throughout the season by our very own Farmer Richard, so we only open the fields when the fruit is at its very best – ripe, sweet and ready. That means peak sweetness, perfect texture and berries that actually smell like strawberries should. No long supply chains, no cold storage, just fresh from the field to your punnet.

When to Pick Strawberries?

Strawberry picking in Warwickshire is one of summer’s great simple pleasures, but a little planning goes a long way. Here’s how to make sure you pick on the right day, at the right time.

Season at a Glance:

April – Mid May: Fields preparing, pre-season

Late May: Early picking begins – crop dependent

June: Peak season – sweetest berries, best availability

July: Picking continues – watch for summer heat

August: Late season – availability varies

September onwards: Season typically ends

Weather shapes every season. Dates can shift by several weeks. We always recommend checking our live availability before planning your trip.

Tips

  1. Check availability before you travel: Crop availability can change week to week depending on the weather.Stay up to date by following our socials, where we announce all openings. Members also enjoy exclusive early access on the first Saturday we open.
  2. June is usually peak season: Strawberry picking season typically hits its stride in June, when the berries are sweetest and the fields are at full yield. Late May and July can also offer great picking depending on the year.
  3. Book ahead at weekends: Summer weekends get busy across the whole farm park. Pre-booking guarantees your spot and often saves a little money versus paying on the gate.
  4. Wear layers and flat shoes: Fields can be muddy after rain even on a sunny day. Comfortable footwear makes the whole picking experience a lot more enjoyable, especially with little ones in tow.

How to Pick the Perfect strawberry

Picking your own strawberries is one of those things that sounds simple and it is, but a few little tricks make all the difference between a punnet of perfect berries and one that’s bruised before you get home.

  1. Look for full red colour:  A ripe strawberry is red all the way to the hull. If there’s any white or green near the top, leave it a little longer.
  2. Give it a gentle squeeze: It should feel firm but with a slight give. Too hard and it’s not ready; too soft and it’s past its best.
  3. Twist, don’t pull: Pinch the stem just above the berry and twist gently. It should come away cleanly without tugging. Pulling can damage the plant and bruise the fruit.
  4. Keep the hull on: Leave the green top attached until you’re ready to eat. It keeps the berry fresher for longer.
  5. Handle with care: Strawberries bruise easily, so place them in your punnet rather than dropping them in. A single layer is better than a big pile if you want them to make it home in one piece.

FAQs

When Is Strawberry Picking Season?

Strawberry picking season in Warwickshire typically runs from late May through to August, with the real sweet spot landing in June when the crop is at its most abundant and the berries are bursting with flavour. That said, every season is shaped by the weather – a warm spring can kick things off early, while a cooler one might push the start back. We update our availability week by week, so always check online before heading out.

What’s the Best Time for Strawberry Picking?

For the best experience, aim to visit earlier in the day. The berries are cool and firm, the fields are quieter, and you’ll have first pick of the rows. Mid-week visits in June are particularly lovely if you can make it. Weekends fill up fast in peak season, so we always recommend booking ahead. Warm, dry weather with a little cloud cover makes for perfect picking conditions – not too hot, not too cold!

When Should I Go Strawberry Picking?

The question isn’t just when in the season – it’s when in the day, too. We open from 10am, and early arrivals get the pick of the crop (literally). Families with young children tend to enjoy the morning session before nap time kicks in. Older kids and teens love having a full day: picking in the morning, then heading into laser combat or the escape rooms after lunch. Whatever time suits you, plan for at least half a day there’s far too much to cram into an hour.

How Much Is Strawberry Picking?

Entry to the farm park gives you access to all our attractions throughout the day, plus one punnet per booking so no additional cost, unless you want to take more.
